Over a century ago, Akaza existed as a human named Hakuji, a gifted martial artist under the tutelage of Keizo. During this time, he faced the dual responsibilities of honing his martial skills and caring for his daughter, Koyuki, who would later become his fiancée. As a human, Akaza’s personality was marked by a noble and kind demeanor, coupled with a resilient and stubborn nature. Despite his exceptional skills, Akaza’s life took a desperate turn. Faced with the need to afford medicine for his ailing father, he resorted to committing crimes. This criminal path, however, was not a reflection of his character but rather an act born out of sheer desperation. His motivation was selfless, driven by the desire to secure the well-being of his loved ones, particularly his father.

Akaza’s determination and nobility shone through even in the face of countless beatings. He declared his willingness to endure such punishment for a hundred years if it meant his father’s healing. This profound dedication illustrated how much he valued the welfare of his family over his own well-being. Furthermore, Akaza’s kindness extended beyond familial ties. He selflessly nursed Koyuki back to health, demonstrating a compassionate nature. Despite having no prior connection to Koyuki, he undertook the responsibility of caring for her without considering it a burden. This altruistic act showcased Akaza’s capacity for selfless love and care.

What is the nature of the relationship between Koyuki and Akaza?

As Koyuki’s father sought to provide her with the care she needed, Hakuji, a compassionate figure, entered their lives as her caretaker. Despite her fragile state, a bond blossomed between Koyuki and Hakuji. Their connection deepened as Koyuki’s health improved over the years, fostering moments of happiness amid the struggles.

The turning point in Koyuki’s life came with her engagement to Hakuji, a promise of shared dreams and a future together. However, the malicious actions of the heir from a neighboring dojo cast a dark shadow over this hope. Enraged by Koyuki’s marriage, he orchestrated a violent confrontation with Hakuji, leading to a tragic sequence of events. The poisoning of the well at the dojo, a place of significance for Koyuki, ultimately claimed her life and that of her father.

The aftermath of Koyuki’s untimely demise was marked by Hakuji’s grief and an overwhelming desire for strength. Transformed into a Demon, Hakuji, now known as Akaza, sought power to fill the void left by the loss of his family. Despite the memory loss accompanying his transformation, Akaza retained a deep aversion to harming women, a poignant reflection of his subconscious connection to Koyuki.

With over a century of combat experience, Akaza fights with foresight and tactical intelligence. Giyu acknowledges his ability to adapt instantly, predicting opponents’ moves and countering with equal power.

Demon Abilities:

Immense Regeneration:

Akaza’s regeneration is among the most remarkable, recovering from severe wounds and even regrowing his head, a feat deemed impossible for most demons.

Physical Abilities:

Immense Durability:

Akaza’s body, enriched with Muzan’s blood, exhibits exceptional durability, withstanding attacks that would incapacitate others. In his confrontation with Kyojuro Rengoku, the Hashira encountered difficulty in cutting various parts of Akaza’s body despite wielding a katana and possessing superhuman physical strength. This highlighted Akaza’s extraordinary durability. Similar to all demons, Akaza’s neck proved to be much tougher compared to the rest of his body. Even when Kyojuro managed to slice two-thirds of Akaza’s neck, the Upper Rank demon successfully escaped, albeit at the cost of severe injuries inflicted upon Kyojuro.

Immense Speed & Reflexes:

Akaza’s speed is incomprehensible, moving at imperceptible speeds and even appearing to teleport. He easily matches the swiftness of Hashira-level Demon Slayers like Tanjiro and Inosuke Hashibira. Even Giyu Tomioka, recognized as one of the fastest Demon Slayers, found himself instantly matched in speed by Akaza, despite Giyu having recently awakened the Demon Slayer Mark just moments before.

His physical strength is overwhelming, capable of breaking the ground with punches, shattering bones, and piercing the formidable Hashira, Kyojuro Rengoku. Even as an 11-year-old boy, Akaza displayed remarkable physical prowess by effortlessly rendering several grown men unconscious using only his bare fists and legs. By the age of 18, even before undergoing demon transformation, he showcased extraordinary combat skills. Akaza managed to decapitate, dismember, and mutilate 67 armed adult kendo masters with nothing but his bare fists. These feats were so extraordinary that even Muzan, the progenitor of demons, initially believed they were the work of a demon rather than a human.

Unlimited Stamina & Endurance:

Akaza’s demon nature grants him boundless stamina and endurance, enduring powerful attacks without showing signs of pain. In all his battles, Akaza displayed an absence of pain or agony, even when subjected to severe injuries such as having his limbs sliced off or enduring numerous slash wounds. Notably, he remained impervious to the effects of Tanjiro’s Hinokami Kagura, which is known to cause pain even to other Upper Rank demons like Daki and Karaku. This resilience was consistent throughout, reflecting Akaza’s exceptional endurance. Notably, even before his transformation into a demon, Akaza demonstrated superhuman endurance at the age of 11, enduring 100 consecutive beatings that would typically render a grown man numb, earning him the title of “Demon Child.”

Supernatural Abilities:

Extrasensory Perception:

Akaza’s heightened senses enable him to detect auras, anticipate opponents’ moves, and perceive fighting spirit, making him a formidable adversary.

Fighting Style:

Master Hand-to-hand Combatant:

Akaza’s remarkable prowess in unarmed combat and bare-fisted martial arts stands out as his most notable attribute, evident both in his human and demonic forms. In his young adult years, Akaza achieved the remarkable feat of singlehandedly annihilating 67 adult kendo masters. His brutal methods involved mutilating their bodies with his bare fists, reducing them to mangled piles of flesh. Upon transforming into a demon, Akaza’s already formidable hand-to-hand combat skills were further enhanced. He became capable of engaging in battles with speeds surpassing the limits of human perception, effectively employing his bare-fisted martial arts techniques for offense and defense against even the most powerful Demon Slayers.

Soryu Style:

Taught by Keizo, this martial arts style involves swift and powerful strikes targeting an opponent’s neck and weapon. Akaza adapted it into his Destructive Death martial arts. The Soryu Style involves using both the arms and legs to execute swift and powerful strikes, with a focus on targeting an opponent’s neck and weapon.

Bell Splitter:

This technique was a notable proficiency of Akaza even when he was human. His expertise in Bell Splitter was likely honed through battles with swordsmen from a neighboring dojo, where he successfully defeated and killed 67 of them at the age of 18, suggesting that he frequently utilized this move to overpower his opponents.

Akaza’s Blood Demon Art:

Akaza’s Blood Demon Art is a martial arts-based technique that incorporates the manipulation of shockwaves and integrates the Soryu style martial arts he learned as a human. This ability centers around the combination of destructive shockwaves and the Soryu Style martial arts that he mastered in his human life.

The shockwaves generated by Akaza are characterized by their blue color and can manifest in various forms, including nearly invisible air pressure, circular energy-like shockwaves, or spikes resembling cannons. Akaza demonstrates the capability to create these shockwaves at will, from any distance, and seemingly from any part of his body. In the heat of battle, he synchronizes these shockwaves with his punches and kicks, enhancing the destructive power of his strikes and enveloping them in a faint blue light.
