Gyutaro, Daki's Fierce Brother

Gyutaro, Daki’s Fierce Brother & Former Upper Rank Six

Who is Gyutaro?

Gyutaro, a key antagonist in the Demon Slayer series, is a part of the Twelve Kizuki, specifically the Upper Rank Six demon. He is one of the two demons who make up the Upper Rank Six, the other being his younger sister, Daki. They are unique in the sense that they are two separate entities but share a single life force, making them a formidable opponent for the Demon Slayer Corps.

Gyutaro is a grotesque figure with a notably disfigured appearance. He has a hunched back and long, unkempt green hair. His skin is a sickly pale hue, and several black-dotted scars mar his face. His eyes are yellow with cat-like pupils, and his mouth brims with sharp, jagged teeth. A long, snake-like tongue frequently dangles from his mouth, enhancing his unsettling aura. Physically, his upper torso, arms, and legs are extremely muscular. In contrast, his waist is exceptionally slender, with his pelvis protruding at an odd angle.

Gyutaro’s personality is as twisted as his appearance. He is sadistic, and cruel, and enjoys inflicting pain on others. Despite his vile nature, he is fiercely protective of his sister, Daki, and would go to great lengths to ensure her safety. This protective nature stems from their tragic past, where Gyutaro had to resort to thievery and murder to protect and provide for Daki.

As a demon, Gyutaro possesses immense strength and agility. His primary weapon is a long, whip-like appendage that he can control at will. He can use this weapon to attack his enemies from a distance, making him a formidable opponent in battle. Moreover, his blood demon art allows him to infect his victims with a deadly poison that slowly weakens and eventually kills them.

Gyutaro’s role in the series is primarily antagonistic. He and Daki were responsible for numerous deaths in the entertainment district, prompting the Demon Slayer Corps to intervene. His fight with the demon slayers showcases his ferocity and ruthlessness, making him one of the memorable villains in the series.

Despite his monstrous nature, Gyutaro’s character is not devoid of depth. His backstory reveals a tragic past that led him to become the demon he is, offering a glimpse into the cruel world that breeds such monsters. His unwavering loyalty to his sister, Daki, also adds a layer of complexity to his character, making him more than just a mindless villain.

Gyutaro’s Personality and Background

Gyutaro was characterized by his cruelty, ruthlessness, and jealousy towards those who led better lives, a sentiment rooted in his own history of enduring poverty and severe hardships as a human. He often displayed a peculiar behavior of giving sarcastic praises to individuals, only to maliciously attempt to end their lives soon after.

In terms of his dynamics, Gyutaro’s close connection with Daki is particularly noteworthy. They functioned as a cohesive unit in combat, with Gyutaro frequently depending on Daki’s combat skills. Their coordinated attack in the Entertainment District, overpowering several Demon Slayer Corps members, is a testament to their combined strength. Even with his aggressive tendencies, Gyutaro’s profound care for Daki is palpable during confrontations. He doesn’t hesitate to risk his own safety for her, revealing an unusual depth of affection among demons.

The bond between Gyutaro and Daki is a central facet of his persona. Their relationship, rich in depth and almost human-like, originates from their intertwined histories as humans. They faced adversities together and leaned on each other for support. This bond sets them apart from the typically lone-wolf demeanor of other demons in the narrative.

As time progressed, Gyutaro’s bitterness and hostility intensified. The challenges he encountered both as a demon and in his previous life have molded him into an even more relentless adversary. Yet, his unwavering protective instinct for Daki persists, hinting at possible remnants of his human side beneath his fearsome exterior.

In his last moments, Gyutaro pondered the different, potentially brighter paths Daki might have taken had he not been in her life. He deeply wished she had been nurtured by someone else, taking full responsibility for her actions and underscoring the depth of his love for her.
