Who is Hinatsuru?
Hinatsuru is a character from “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba.” She is recognized as a kunoichi and is one of Tengen Uzui’s wives. Hinatsuru is described as a woman of average height with a slender and curvy build. Her long black hair is usually tied back in a ponytail, and her large, almond-shaped violet eyes are accentuated by a beauty mark under her left eye, which adds to her gentle and kind demeanor.
Her attire consists of a short, sleeveless lavender dress with a darker square pattern. The dress has a deep neckline that reveals her cleavage and is cinched at the waist with a red-violet obi, where she likely keeps her kunai hidden. She also wears brown fishnet stockings that extend to her mid-thighs and light-colored sandals with purple straps. Additionally, in a flashback, Hinatsuru is depicted wearing long, fingerless fishnet gloves.
Hinatsuru’s Personality and Background
Hinatsuru, a character from “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba,” shares a personality akin to Tanjiro Kamado—she is kind, calm, and nurturing. She handles the dynamics between her co-wives with a soothing presence, much like Tanjiro does with his companions Zenitsu and Inosuke.
As the more composed and understanding of Tengen Uzui’s wives, Hinatsuru often acts as an emotional support for Tengen, offering a level of maturity and mediation that Makio and Suma may not provide. Despite being only slightly older, she exhibits significant maturity, often stepping in to defuse tensions, such as when she explained Tengen’s unconventional approach to life as a shinobi to a perplexed Makio.
Hinatsuru’s patience has its limits, however. She showed her displeasure when Suma and Makio bickered while Tengen was critically ill from Gyutaro’s poison. She also displayed irritation when Obanai belittled Tengen’s efforts against what he deemed the weakest of the Upper Ranks.
In her past, Hinatsuru, alongside Suma and Makio, became one of Tengen’s wives. They left their clan and sought out Kagaya Ubuyashiki to join the fight with the Demon Slayer Corps.
Tengen once instructed Hinatsuru, Makio, and Suma on his personal philosophy: to prioritize their own lives first, then those of respectable humans, and finally his own. While Makio was conflicted about this doctrine, as it contradicted their kunoichi training, Hinatsuru embraced Tengen’s wishes, advocating for the importance of self-preservation. She later expressed a desire for all four of them to step back from the front lines after defeating an Upper Rank demon, highlighting her practicality and concern for their collective well-being.
