What role did Koinatsu play in the Entertainment District Arc?
In the Entertainment District Arc of “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba,” Koinatsu plays a significant role as the highest-ranking courtesan in the Yoshiwara District. She first appears during her Oiran Dochu, a complex procession, where she is recognized by Tengen Uzui, Zenitsu Agatsuma, and Inosuke Hashibira. Zenitsu expresses annoyance at Tengen having multiple wives as beautiful as Koinatsu.
At the Tokito House, Koinatsu overhears a conversation about Suma’s disappearance, a wife of Tengen who infiltrated the district. Tanjiro, disguised as “Sumiko,” approaches her to gather information. Koinatsu, initially suspicious, is relieved when Tanjiro reveals he is looking for his sister Suma. She shares that Suma didn’t abandon her role out of love but mentions finding Suma’s diary with hints of leaving.
Later, Koinatsu is seen bonding with her young assistants, gifting them special kanzashi hairpins. Tanjiro, now revealed in his Demon Slayer uniform, approaches Koinatsu seeking her assistance in rescuing those who have gone missing. Koinatsu appreciates his efforts and thanks “Sumi,” expressing concern for those who disappeared.
However, in a dramatic turn of events, Daki, an Upper Six demon, appears in Koinatsu’s room. She reveals her intention to devour Koinatsu, causing the Oiran to be paralyzed with fear. Tanjiro, sensing the demon’s presence, returns to rescue Koinatsu. He battles Daki and manages to sever the obi that absorbed Koinatsu, freeing her.
Although Koinatsu is not seen again in the arc, it is presumed that she would have fled Yoshiwara safely, especially as Suma was directing the evacuation during the intense battle between the Demon Slayers and the Upper Six siblings.
