Suma, Tengen Uzui's Wife in Demon Slayer

Suma, Tengen Uzui’s Wife and Ninja

Who is Suma?

Suma is a supporting character in “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba,” known for being one of Tengen Uzui’s wives and a skilled kunoichi. She is a petite young woman with shoulder-length black hair, short bangs, and striking blue eyes. Like her co-wives, she has a curvaceous figure.

Her attire consists of a short, blue, sleeveless dress that reveals her cleavage, cinched at the waist with a gray obi, which likely serves as a storage for her kunai. Suma also wears gray tabi socks that reach her ankles and traditional white zōri sandals with blue straps, completing her kunoichi outfit.

Suma’s Personality and Background

Suma is characterized by her dramatic and expressive nature, often exhibiting exaggerated emotions in various situations, much like Zenitsu Agatsuma from “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba.” She is known for her tendency to be fearful and lack confidence, especially when faced with danger, and she can be quite tearful, whether from receiving compliments or out of fear when encountering demons. Suma is prone to acting immaturely, frequently engaging in disputes with her co-wives, particularly Makio, which can lead to tension and frustration.

Despite her emotional tendencies, Suma is a devoted and caring wife to Tengen, and she shows concern for others, as seen when she helped evacuate Yoshiwara with Makio during the intense battle between the Demon Slayers and the Upper Rank demons. Her deep affection for Tengen is evident, especially when she overcomes her usual timidness to reprimand Nezuko Kamado during a misunderstanding about Tengen’s condition, and she later shows immense relief when Tengen is healed from poison.

Suma entered into marriage with Tengen Uzui by her own choice, in contrast to the arranged marriages of Makio and Hinatsuru. Together with her family, she sought out Kagaya Ubuyashiki to join the fight against demons as part of the Demon Slayer Corps.

Tengen imparted a personal philosophy to Suma and her co-wives: prioritize their own safety first, then that of respectable humans, and finally his own well-being. This guidance initially conflicted with their kunoichi training, but Hinatsuru reassured Makio that Tengen’s wishes were acceptable, indicating a shift in their traditional roles. Suma, along with the others, harbored a hope to withdraw from the front lines after defeating an Upper Rank demon, seeking a quieter life thereafter.
