Susamaru, the Temari Demon

Susamaru, the Demon with Temari Balls

Who is Susamaru?

Susamaru, known as the Temari Demon, is a character from “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba” who serves as one of the primary antagonists during the Asakusa Arc, alongside Yahaba. She is a demon with ambitions to become a member of the Twelve Kizuki, a group of elite demons under the command of Muzan Kibutsuji.

She has a distinctive appearance with pale skin and striking yellow eyes that have cat-like pupils and white horizontal stripes. Her black hair features orange-tinted ends and is styled with bangs framing her face.

Susamaru’s attire includes long silver earrings and an orange kimono, which complements the color of her hair. Over her kimono, she initially wears a black haori, but she discards both garments during combat to reveal a small black sarashi wrapped around her chest and upper abdomen.

In her normal state, Susamaru has an average build, but her physique becomes significantly more muscular when she engages in serious battle. Additionally, she has the ability to grow two extra pairs of arms, enhancing her combat capabilities.

Susamaru’s Personality and Background

Susamaru, also known as the Temari Demon, is a playful yet immature antagonist in the Asakusa Arc of “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba.” She is characterized by her constant smiling and her enjoyment of challenges, often repeating her catchphrase “what fun this is” during battles she finds amusing. Her immaturity starkly contrasts with her partner Yahaba’s seriousness.

Her loyalty to Muzan Kibutsuji is fanatical, and she fights with all her might, hoping to kill Tanjiro Kamado and capture Tamayo for her master. When Tamayo speaks ill of Muzan, calling him manipulative and cowardly, Susamaru vehemently defends his honor.

Before becoming a demon, Susamaru was a young girl who enjoyed playing with temari balls. She was convinced by Muzan that she was a member of the Twelve Kizuki, which instilled in her a deep sense of pride and intense loyalty. Muzan’s summoning led her and Yahaba to hunt down Tanjiro, which brought them to Asakusa.

During the confrontation, Susamaru’s immaturity is evident as she gleefully destroys a house with her temari balls, much to Yahaba’s annoyance. Her battle with Tanjiro and Nezuko showcases her formidable abilities, including regenerating multiple arms and wielding her temari balls with deadly force.

Despite her strength, Susamaru’s loyalty to Muzan is her downfall. In an attempt to defend him, she accidentally invokes his name, triggering the Curse of Kibutsuji, which ultimately leads to her demise. Her death is a tragic reflection of Muzan’s manipulation, as she dies believing she was part of the elite Twelve Kizuki, a status she never truly held. Tanjiro’s return of her temari ball in her final moments is a poignant gesture, acknowledging her humanity despite the demon she had become.
